Coverking of California makes the finest car covers and seat covers. But the beginning was quite humble really. The company was founded in 1986 by an enterprising engineer who had worked with the southern California’s Aerospace Defense industry for quite some time. Coverking was enriched with the vast experience gathered by its founder while working with the national defense industry, where computer aided designs as well as the latest manufacturing techniques were routine operations.

It can be imagined what the impact of CAD/CAM technology had in an industry that was managed by the age old cut-and-sew methods, and dominated by skilled and semi-skilled manual labor. There was a revolution almost overnight. Productivity geared up enormously while the quality was much better as well. Where previously it took 30 days to make an unit of production, now it took just 1. The production cost was lowered and the final product for the consumer cost less too.

Fame followed industry recognition while rave reviews attracted the attention of all concerned with the trade. Product appreciation reached such stellar heights that the US auto giant GM (General Motors) allowed the company to use the GM™ logo for all upholstery products made by Coverking for GM vehicles. Yet another feather was added to Coverking’s cap when the prestigious Quality Certification of QS9000 and TS16949 was awarded to them soon after.

Several noteworthy factors appear to have contributed to Coverking’s phenomenal success. Firstly, there was the experience gained by the owner at the Aerospace Defense industry. Secondly, the use of the latest technologies and the most advanced machinery. Thirdly, the uncompromising attitude for using only the best quality materials. And lastly, placing the customer’s interest above everything else.

The Coverking success story does not end here. Prompted by one achievement after another, the company now aims at manufacturing as well as customizing more automotive upholstery accessories hitherto left untouched by the industry due to lack of expertise and know-how.
